Travel information
It is safe to travel in Chile and you will find a friendly welcome always and everywhere. Chileneans are called the South American British. You can rely upon opening times of museums, shops and flight schedules and even if Chilenean people are not as punctual as Europeans it is considered impolite to keep people waiting. All in all Chile is an easy entryway into South America. If you first land in Santiago you will still feel like being in Europe.
Nevertheless there are some points to consider when travelling to Chile:
Climate and clothes

There are mountains and many different climate zones so you will need clothes for all kinds of weather. Most important are strong hiking boots and a rainproof outdoor jacket with one or two layers.
If you spend time in the south you will need rain- and windproof clothes, in the north it is warm and sunny during the day so you will need a sunhat, glasses and a good sunprotection.
High up in the Andes it will never get really hot – not even during the day so you will always need a warm jacket there.
Nights in the Atacamenian desert are clear and cold, there can be a difference in temperature of more than 30 degrees Celsius between night and day. Another must is water because of the very dry climate. Of course we will keep an eye on the water supply of our tour guests and there will always be a complete list of what to bring before a tour.
Documents
You will need a valid passport, on entering the country you will get a little slip of paper with a stamp which you have to present when leaving the country.
Apart from the normal formalities you will have to pass a food check. Chile is very strict about all kinds of organic substances entering the country like food, plants or animal products. There are even some checks within the country.
Health
Für There are no compulsory special vaccinations, however tetanus and hepatitisprophylaxis are recommended. If you want to go on to Bolivia or Peru you need shots against cholera and typhus.
If you travel to the
highland / altiplano in the Andes with us a good sunprotection is very important. Sunhat, sunglasses and a good sunblocker are musts as well as drinking enough water because of the extreme height.
The altitude of more than 3000m may present you with some problems. So watch out for signs of mountain sickness. If you feel dizzy, develop a headache, feel weak or develop other signs of illness return immediately to a lower altitude.
