Geographie
Chile has got a crazy geography, it is 4300km from north to south but has got only an average width of no more than 177km.Therefore you will find all climate zones of the earth in this one country.
Geographically the country is divided from north to south into Norte, Central and Sud, from east to west into Andes Cordillera, Central Valley and Coast Cordillera.
The Andes Cordille in the north - the altiplano - goes up to a height of 6000metres, in the Andes you can find salt lakes and deserts surrounded by high mountains.
The mountains eventually become lower in Patagonia in the south of Chile, there they are only 33oo metres high. Chiloe, the island in the west is also a part of Chile as well as the Easter Islands( Rapa Nui)and the Juan-Fernandes Islands ( the Robinson-Crusoe-islands).
Chile lies on different continental plates, that is the reason for the volcanic acticivity and the many earthquakes. There are 600 volcanoes along the Andes Cordilleres.

Not only the geography but also the climate is extreme. The Atacama desert in the north is the driest desert of the world. In the deep south you can find glaciers, ice.fields and fjords. Between these two extremes you will find the central valley that is also the home of Santiago de Chile the capital. Around these extremes you can find fertile valleys with fruit and wine. Chile is one of the leading fruit producers of the world.
You can divide Chile into five main regions, these are from north to south
Norte Grande,
Norte Chico,
Region Central/Metropolitana,
La Araucania y Los Lagos and
Sur y Patagonia.
